Using PhotoVoice for African American Ethnohistory in the C&O Canal NHP
Gina Lewis, Associate Professor of Fine and Performing Arts at Bowie State University; Fall 2020 Inclusion Imperative Visiting Faculty Fellow

Gina M. Lewis will discuss her current project that seeks to identify African American communities that have historically had access to the the C&O Canal National Historic Park or were associated with the park's land. She will explore her use of interdisciplinary methodologies, including photography and creative writing, to document African American Ethnohistories in communities adjacent to the park. The project aspires to facilitate agency for African American communities and influence funding, policy, programming, and educational materials.
