The Dresher Center for the Humanities invites applications for Summer Fellowships for Teaching and Part-Time Faculty
The application for Summer 2027 will be posted in November.
Funding is intended to support and promote significant humanities research at UMBC. The fellow will receive support for summer research and the advancement of a book manuscript, a major article, or a project of similar stature. Funding may also be used for assistance in developing extramural funding applications, book proposals, and grant project applications.
Proposals are welcome from all teaching professors and part-time faculty pursuing humanities research in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences, whether employed full- or part-time. Proposals will be reviewed by the Dresher Center Advisory Board.
The Dresher Center uses the National Endowment for the Humanities’ definition of the humanities: “The term ‘humanities’ includes, but is not limited to, the study of the following: language, both modern and classical; linguistics; literature; history; jurisprudence; philosophy; archaeology; comparative religion; ethics; the history, criticism and theory of the arts; those aspects of social sciences which have humanistic content and employ humanistic methods; and the study and application of the humanities to the human environment with particular attention to reflecting our diverse heritage, traditions, and history and to the relevance of the humanities to the current conditions of national life.”
Things to Note:
- Part-Time faculty must be teaching at UMBC at the time of application with the expectation that they will also teach at UMBC in the academic semester or year following summer funding.
- Only one fellowship will be awarded.
- Individuals or groups can apply for a summer fellowship.
- The summer Fellow will receive $6,000 per award (paid in equal distributions in May and June).
- Funds supporting this initiative are provided by the Dresher Center for the Humanities Endowment.
