Epistemology – the theory of knowledge – underwent rapid transformations in the early stages of the Greek philosophical tradition. Indeed, the conception of knowledge itself – what we aim at when we investigate the world – changed dramatically. Dr. Schwab presents a theory of this change, and of the conceptual mechanisms through which it occurred.

Radio Relations in the Global South

Jessica Berman, Professor of English and Director of the Dresher Center for the Humanities

This talk will discuss the ways that radio in the Global South offers a sound environment where varieties of aesthetic practice as well as new habits of social relation can emerge. Dr. Berman will briefly discuss two examples from radio in Jamaica and Argentina: Jamaican Patois performance and poetry by Louise Bennett-Coverly and the gender-role defying Tango singers of 1930s Argentina. Berman's presentation will sketch out how the intermedial protocols of radio proliferate vernaculars, voices, and varieties of embodiment that push back on imperial and state-based social relations.
