The Sogdians at the Heart of the Ancient Silk Road: New Archaeological Discoveries from Western Uzbekistan.
Dr. Zachary Silvia, Postdoctoral Research Associate in Archaeology and the Ancient World, Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, Brown University
In this lecture, Dr. Silvia highlights the critical importance of ancient Sogdiana at
the end of the first millennium BCE in facilitating interactions between
the Hellenistic world and the Qin/Han dynasties by exploring aspects of
early Sogdian identity that anticipate their later role as power
merchants of the Silk Road.
