Join the Department of English on September 11, 2026 from 11:30am-1:30pm for a performances to celebrate Senegalese culture.
Performances:
Amadou Kouyate is the 150th generation of the Kouyate family of Manding Diali, renowned oral historians and musicians of West Africa. Amadou performs on the 21-string Kora and also on Djembe and Koutiro drums. His repertoire spans traditional songs from the 13th century to original compositions incorporating blues and jazz.
Mama Cheryl Hinton is a storyteller, fabric sculptress, and author of the children's book, Kayla’s Magic Eyes, which focuses on the virtue of truth-telling.
Keur Khaleyi African Dance Company is a Baltimore-based cultural organization dedicated to preserving and promoting African dance, drumming, and education. For over 15 years, KKI has served more than 400 students and families through culturally grounded programming that builds confidence, leadership, and community connection.
This event is the second of two events to celebrate and highlight the culture of Senegal.
