Starting Again: The Story of 2 Spanish Films and a Video Essay

Erin Hogan, Associate Professor, Modern Languages, Linguistics, and Intercultural Communicaiton

What does returning home from political or economic exile look and feel like for protagonists forty years apart? How do age, gender, economic conditions, and privilege inform the generic inflections of these representations? Hogan explores these questions in a comparative video essay and invites Currents participants to share feedback.

AND

I have been standing here for a long time.

Bao Nguyen, MFA Candidate, Intermedia + Digital Arts

It’s the end. I have been standing here for a long time, staring at these vacant lots around Southwest Baltimore from  February 2025 to Spring 2026. Along this journey, I met Dan, who manages the Mt. Clare Community Garden. I spent close to a year getting to know him and his wife Katherine, sharing meals and gardening together. In this performance-lecture, I will walk through my process of observing, relating and making art from the vacant lots and with the people who steward them. Please come join me in witnessing the end together.
