Support the Dresher Center for the Humanities

From the Director

In just a few short years, the Dresher Center for the Humanities has become an emerging leader in the cultural life of UMBC and the region. The scholars it supports are producing cutting-edge new research and bringing insights from their work to students in the classroom.  Its faculty working groups are engaged in Baltimore’s civic life, using the tools of the humanities to tackle some of society’s biggest problems. The Center is becoming known for the excellence of its programs, which present exciting new ideas in the spirit of inquiry and conversation. Its Humanities Scholars Program is the envy of other centers nationwide.

Sustaining and growing the Dresher Center depends on continuing support from the community. Your gift will help:

  • Fund study abroad costs for a Humanities Scholar. Help us send a young scholar on a journey of discovery abroad – and bring global insights back to the UMBC community.
  • Fund a faculty fellow. Help us offer the gift of time, space and conversation to the scholars who will generate the ideas of the future – while bringing the spark of discovery to the UMBC classroom.
  • Fund a Faculty Working Group. Help us bring some of the brightest minds on campus together to think hard about the Humanities and Civic Engagement, the Digital Humanities, Math and What it Means to Be Human, and other compelling topics.
  • Support the Dresher Center Humanities Forum. Help us bring the most challenging, compelling, and creative speakers to UMBC by supporting the Humanities Forum – and then please come and experience the excitement!
